Composite Fire Doors

Composite fire doors have a fire-resisting core inside a durable factory-finished skin, usually GRP. They are popular for flat entrances and external doors because they need little maintenance and can combine FD30S fire and smoke performance with PAS 24 security — provided the exact configuration is certified.

Guide price £1,200–£2,200 per door, supplied & fitted, ex VAT. Fixed after survey.

Why evidence matters most for composite doors

Government testing of flat entrance doors after the Grenfell Tower fire found that several composite door ranges failed to reach 30 minutes, and some products were withdrawn. Manufacturers have since re-tested and re-certified. We only quote composite fire doors with current third-party certification for the configuration you are buying, and the certificate reference goes on your quote.

Colours, glazing and hardware

Composite doors come in a wide palette of colours and woodgrain finishes. Glazing, letterplates and spyholes are available, but only in the combinations the manufacturer has tested — we'll tell you which options keep the rating.

Where are composite fire doors used?

  • Flat entrance doors
  • External doors to communal stairs
  • Low-maintenance replacements
  • Social housing programmes

Composite fire doors questions

Are composite fire doors safe?

A composite door with current third-party certification for its configuration is as reliable as any other certified fire door. Ask for the certificate reference — we provide it on every quote.

Can composite fire doors be used externally?

Many are tested for external use, which matters for doors opening onto external walkways or stairs.

Do they need painting?

No. The factory finish is designed to last without painting.

Can I have a letterplate?

Only a fire-rated letterplate tested with that door.
