For non-domestic premises, the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 place duties on whoever controls the building.

Your questions answered
Which rules apply in Dumfries & Galloway?
Doors are specified to the Scottish Building Standards Technical Handbooks and your fire risk assessment or fire strategy. We confirm the rating of each door at survey.
Can you work around tenants or staff?
Yes. We phase work in occupied buildings and keep escape routes available. Each door is planned to be removed and replaced the same day; if that isn't possible, the opening is made secure and we tell you in advance.
Do you remove the old doors?
Yes. Removal and disposal of the old door and frame is included when we replace a doorset.
Can stair doors have locks?
Only escape hardware that allows instant exit without a key in the direction of escape.
