Which rules apply in Smethwick?
In Smethwick, as across England, Approved Document B governs new work and the Fire Safety Order 2005 governs existing premises. Note that Approved Document B is removing the BS 476 fire-resistance test references on 2 September 2029, so specifications are moving to EN classifications such as E30 Sa.

Common questions in West Midlands
Can you fit just one door in Smethwick?
Yes — from a single door to a full building. Where possible, small jobs are scheduled alongside other visits in West Midlands.
Do you cover Smethwick?
Yes. We survey, supply and fit fire rated glazed screens throughout Smethwick and the rest of West Midlands, including B66 and nearby West Bromwich.
Can you work around tenants or staff in Smethwick?
Yes. We phase work in occupied buildings and keep escape routes available. Each door is planned to be removed and replaced the same day; if that isn't possible, the opening is made secure and we tell you in advance.
Can screens be very large?
Size limits depend on the screen system's evidence. Larger screens may need intermediate mullions or transoms.
